I haven’t had much to say here! In my real life I have been saying things like “Sure, I’ll get that done by Wednesday,” on account of my being pretty busy and stuff.
My wife and I spent last weekend up north in the Beulah/Benzonia/Frankfort area for a lovely wedding on beautiful Crystal Lake. A decent weekend all around, despite having to wear a suit and tie.
This weekend is our one year wedding anniversary, so we’ll be doing some stuff for that and it will be fun and good.
Tuesday night I had a little time to burn so I got in the vocal booth (which, by my estimation, is “done”… it certainly COULD be more soundproof, but at this point, it is performing well enough that I don’t feel the need to throw anymore money into the project… Acoustic guitar is hardly heard at all a floor above, loud electric guitar gets cut about 50%, and I can feel free to sing at the top of my lungs with just a bit of muffled sound reaching outside ears) and practiced a set of new songs I’m working on. I have a lot of ideas right now, and it’s gonna be quite a task figuring out which melodies I like, which lyrics to use, and how exactly to arrange these songs. I want them to sound like my songs, but also give the impression that I’m branching out a bit. To my ears, there’s a “Sunil sound” that I want to retain while still being experimental. Sometimes, though, the experimental ideas don’t necessarily sit well with me at first, so I tend to go the route that’s going to please me instantly. Perhaps I just need to give some of the different ideas some time to percolate and become part of what I do. Either way, it was fun, and I got some nice rough stuff recorded to listen to and continue working on.
I’ve also kinda been thinking “What is this blog about exactly?”… I don’t necessarily want it to be an online diary of mundane things I do every day. I also feel like I repeat myself a lot when I say things like “I’ve been working on these songs a bit” or whatever… I’ll figure that out, though. I like this blog. Now that fall is (kind of) here, I should probably switch out the banner photo. Kite flying is nice and all, but it’s time for a change of scenery.
