Well, a bit has been going on but I haven’t updated in a while. The band played a so-so show on Saturday night at the Berkley Front. We ended up playing last, due to bands being from out of town and having further to drive afterwards than we did, which was fine.

I should mention that there’s a bit of instability in the band and in my own head (when thinking about the band) which may or may not cause us to stop playing shows for a while… We have a few more this summer… We just had to cancel the one coming this Friday. The remaining summer shows seem promising and like they’ll be fun, but I’m worried that with all the practicing and playing shows that I’ve let my writing skills atrophy. And writing is my favorite part! And recording! I won’t bore you with the details, but basically, I’d rather have a writing/recording project that occasionally played shows rather than a show-playing project that occasionally writes and records. We got off to a good start as a band, because I had a year’s worth of Song of the Month songs lying around that we could start playing immediately… But since then, I’ve written maybe, what, 3 songs that we can feasibly play live? That’s not enough for me. I have a short attention span for my own creative output. And we’re still playing 4 of the songs from back then live. So, anyway, we’ll talk about it and see if we can go in another direction, or perhaps regroup in the future, or something. In the meantime, I’ve been setting my basement up to do some serious work on my solo material and a subsequent recording of said material. Anyway, we’re not a broken-up band as of yet, and I hope to maintain some kind of group dynamic in the realm of music playing for a long time, but maybe just not in the form in which we’re currently doing it.

Luckily there’s a holiday tomorrow and I can sleep in and not think for a while! Work’s been pretty busy for me lately as well, so the day off is more than welcome.
